Fab Lab

This is the second workshop we make at fablab to reach HONF-Yakkum and Fablab Amsterdam goal, to make 50$ below knee prosthetic. This workshop involved two people from HONF, Irene Agrivina and Agus Tri Budiarto aka Timbil. This is a  first time for Timbil to go to this amazing lab, and the second time for Irene. Its a perfect working space / lab and  met a lot of nice people there. The first day there, Alex Schaub ( Fablab Amsterdam manager) showed HONF around and told us everything about fablab, which made us wondering and dream that someday we will have fablab in Jogjakarta-Indonesia. We both HONF and Alex really sure the fablab will bring a good impact for the people there in Jogja, and this prosthetic workshop is bring us a one step further to realize a project and idea which is very useful and helpful for the people in Indonesia, even beyond.

Work at Home or Home Work ?

We were ready to go to Fab Lab this morning but Alex suggested us a super idea that we may stayed at home and work at home. The warmth is always the reason for us to stay, and so we could discuss what to do. We did research, and with the help of HONF member and YAKKUM people in Jogjakarta, we got  many use full information. We got many input about materials and costs about the local material from Jogja that we can use and develop at Fablab Amsterdam. Consider to HONF workshop at Fab Lab, and the visit of Alex Schaub to Yakkum and HONF  last year, this time we are trying to focus on materials, cheaper material but has a good durability and standard quality needed for prosthetic.

Ottobock's now patent free tube adapter needs to be reenginierd to a certain extend in order to drop the costs, and speed up the production process.

Visiting Kamer Orthopedie

Glad to find out that Kamer Orthopedie is 5 minutes walk near to our place to stay. We made an appointment with Mr. Ernei at 10 o’clock in the morning. Together with Alex Schaub, we came there right on time. They greet us very well, and in a very short time, we got a lot of useful information. This great guy showed us everything they have and everything we need. It is very amazing for us, which is in the very short time he transferred many knowledge to us.  We came there to see how they make it work with cosmetic thing for prosthetic. He explained us many thing to do to make a below knee prosthetic look natural.  It is very important information because lot of people (mostly women) refuse to use a prosthetic that look like a robot. He showed us  a lot of trick on how to make and possible material that can be use.  His knowledge really improved our perspective and raised many new ideas.
After visiting Kamer Orthopedie, we came to Fablab Amsterdam. And Irene cook us some lunch, Indonesia lunch. We all sat on the table at Fablab Amsterdam and spent a nice evening with some other people that worked at Fablab. Deanna Herst,  also join us, which is made us feel in to one family.
After that we followed Fablab academy, something really new for us. We learn something altogether with another Fablab from around the world.

Hand shaped Polystyreen foam 'half products' are used for the aesthetic finnish.

Presentation

We collected all the data we have, the information and solution. We almost come in to the goal. We were amazed, that in such a short time, we did many things. And Alex, made a great innovation, he was successful made a bamboo prosthetic.
Alex started the presentation about the 50$ prosthetic, and how it works and Timbil continued the presentation with the situation in Indonesia, the materials and the cost. Irene closed the presentation with telling the audience about the collaboration between Fablab Amsterdam – HONF- YAKKUM rehabilitation centre.
We had much good feedback from the audience, the discussion after the presentation run very well, and we hope it will bring a new dimension to them, about how people from around the world can work together and elaborate in one good mission.
This project not only get attention from people at Fablab Amsterdam, but also Professor     from India help Fablab Amsterdam to make a line laser, And also Miguel and Oscar from Fablab Amsterdam created a 3D scanner which is very useful to speed up the time to make a prosthetic.
We are extremely grateful to Mr. Alex Schaub from Fablab Amsterdam, Waag Society, people at Fablab Amsterdam which is very nice and welcome and Deanna Herst as HONF‘s advisor.
